A frayed cable is a countdown — across Santa Rosa Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, Grayton Beach, WaterColor, Seaside, Seagrove Beach, Rosemary Beach, Inlet Beach, Miramar Beach, Freeport.
Cables do the quiet half of the work: the springs carry the weight, the cables translate it into lift. When one frays, slips its drum or snaps, the door drops on one side, jams in the track and puts everything else — rollers, hinges, track, opener — under load it was never designed to take.
We replace cables in pairs, re-seat and re-time the drums, square the door and re-prove the balance. Single-cable replacement on a coastal door is a false economy: the other one lived the same salty life.
Cable is stranded steel, and stranded steel is exactly the shape salt likes: moisture wicks between the strands and corrodes them from the inside where nothing shows on the surface. A cable on a bayou-side or Gulf-side garage can look fine and still be running on a fraction of its rating. Galvanized coastal-grade cable, correctly tensioned and inspected at every visit, is the only version worth installing this close to the water.
The door is stabilised and tension released safely before any cable comes off a drum.
Galvanized coastal-grade cable both sides, correct length and swage for the drum.
Drums re-seated and timed so both sides lift together and the door runs square.
Spring tension re-checked, door floated at half-open, full cycles run and safety reverse tested.
